Chains of Love - Black Hearts
The white-hot trendsetters Cults weren’t inventing anything particularly new, but in reviving the spirit of a genre that’s been sleeping a while we’re starting to see a lot more retro pop landing in our proverbial juke boxes. Enter these Vancouver artists who are hard at work awakening that “60’s girl group sound” in their own right, and doing a pretty fresh, bang-up job.
This song is the B-side on the new ltd. 7” from Hi-Scores Recording Library - it comes out tomorrow. On Tumblr here. More tunes on Bndcmp, too.

Chains of Love // “Black Hearts”
One band that I am really excited about is Chains of Love. I spilled the beans on how great I think they are last month, and that wow-factor hasn’t really diminished at all. In fact, it’s quite the opposite (especially when they drop me some new tracks to devour).
On “Black Hearts”, Chains of Love takes their time machine even further back in time. The jump brings a heightened level of authenticity to the music. The production is a little cleaner, the harmonies are tighter, and the “doo-whas” pierce straight down to the heart. Their music evokes the aesthetics of a lazy summer break in the early 1960’s. A simpler, more innocent time where “getting pinned” had a completely different meaning. So sling your letterman jacket over your girl’s shoulders, push play on the radio, and park your car at makeout-point; because Chains of Love is here to stay.
Download “Black Hearts” and their other brand-new track, “Lately” on their Soundcloud while you can.
